This is a peaceful and well kept site of individually owned log cabins which are well separated and have balconies facing the sunset across a small loch. Beautiful, and walking distance to the beach at Sandhills. The cabin we had for a holiday let was cosy, well laid out and a lovely place to stay. There's a pub tucked in the corner of the site and an indoor pool that is booked individually. A far cry from a static mobile home site, week were really impressed.

Had such a great time in Thistle Lodges at Barend in July 2021! We stayed in lovely Bainloch lodge (lodge 9) which was perfect for our family and a few friends. Lodge was very clean, well equipped, with a lovely outdoor balcony with a view of the little loch. Also the perfect cosy inside area for when we needed it. Really lovely having big glass sliding doors to access the downstairs balcony too. The location was perfect with plenty for everyone to do and we enjoyed swimming in the sea, mountain biking, kayaking at loch Ken, swimming in loch Arthur (where there is also a fabulous little local farm shop). We also loved the on site pool which we got all to ourselves for our slots. One night our group had a meal at the restaurant on the site which was absolutely delicious, sitting outside in the courtyard was lovely and there was a good range of really high quality food. Something for everyone and very friendly helpful staff. We also enjoyed a pizza from the pizza van in the nearest village and had really nice fish and chips from Dalbeattie. Can't wait to return
