Dilapidated and Unkempt. I couldn't agree more with the previous 1 star reviews, and judging by the owners response he/she are utterly irresponsible money grabbers whom become hostile and abusive when their unsafe property deficits are highlighted. Mr Watsons review was accurate and the pictures speak for themselves, our complaint through Sykes was met with complete denial and absolutely no apology or even part ownership of the glaring issues. The owners are simply trying to claw as much money back from the lockdown at other peoples expense whilst providing substandard accommodation. No doubt the owner will respond with an eloquent display of emojis donating profanities!!

Stay in August 2021. Utterly Despicable condition, unsafe and unhygienic accomodation. Main Cottage: Cleanliness:- All wooden floors filthy, within 20 mins our 4 year old sons feet where black with dirt (Photo Evidence). Balls of fur under the settee. Skirting Boards dirty and dusty (Photo) Main Bedroom extension lead covered in dirt and not PAT Tested (Photo). Cleaned one wooden slat with a floor wipe to illustrate the level of dirt (Photo). Conservatory door broken and filthy Inside and Outside (Photo) Maintenance:- Extension lead not PAT Tested Kitchen floor slats loose and some sticking up, trip hazard. Bathroom base Duct taped along the sill (Photo). Step into conservatory coming away, our child fell over this and grazed his knees (Photo) Garden: Cleanliness: Garden was tatty and full of weeds, and dead leaves. Cigarette butts (Old) all over the BBQ )(Photos). Maintenance: Garden Furniture broken (Photos) Hosepipe/wheelbarrow and ladders left on the patio causing risk to occupants and children, Health and Safety (Photo). Metal Debris left at the back of the summer house unsecured causing risk to occupants, Health and Safety (Photo). Rear fence has sharp rusty chicken wire the entire length, Risk to Occupants, Health and Safety (Photo). Side fence is industrial barricade metal barriers held up with angled planks of wood not secured, risk to occupants, Health and Safety (Photo). Summer House: Cleanliness: Cobwebs all over the door (Photo). Floor filthy and covered with dead insects (Photo). Dead vermin (Mouse) in glass candle holder on table top (Photo). Maintenance: Broken/missing door handle(Photo). Panneling coming away from the wall (Photo). Dart board hanging off the wall. Old pipe work sticking out of the wall (Photo). Electrical socket filled in with polly filler (Photo). Holes filled with bubble wrap?!?! (Photo). We had to spend the entire first day cleaning the cottage and the garden, we started to clean the Summer House but after cleaning the doors we decided we just wouldnt use it due to the state of it. The sub-standard quality and cleanliness is by far the worst we have ever encountered and considering we paid 1200 for the week we expected far better, we could have stayed at a 5* Hotel for less! The disgusting level of cleanliness is one thing, but the obvious risks presented to us and our 4 year old child was unacceptable, we have reported this accomodation to the Scottish Tourism Board as well as Dumfries & Galloway Tourism centres to highlight our miserable experience at Wagtail cottage and the poor standards the owner/Sykes Cottages seem to reflect. Not to mention some of the Health & Safety issues identified, there seems to be no quality standards and checking systems in place to ensure the advertised accommodation is to an acceptable standard? This is a real shame as the location is stunning, the only reason we didnt leave on arrival is because our 4 year old son was so excited about our beach holiday so we had no choice but to make good what we could. As parents we have been extra vigilant as our son was injured having fallen over the defective step to the conservatory and this should not be the case in a Holiday Cottage charging 5* prices. We are utterly disgusted by our stay at Wagtail Cottage and will not be recommending it to anyone. The owner nor Sykes cottages took any responsibility and shrugged it off, utterly deplorable behaviour from both parties.
