Church Island or "The Strand at Lough Beg" as it's also known is named after a poem by Seamus Heaney and has a recording available to play not too far into the walk. It is a movingeulogy to Heaneys cousin who was murdered during The Troubles in Northern Ireland. The walk continues overlooking great views of church Island which we couldn't see an easy way to access, perhaps in the middle of summer when the marshes have dried some more. However the rest of the main walk is worth it regardless. Everything is free and parking holds around 12 cars.

One of the Countys rarely visited gems. Best visited at low tide in Autumn as Longpoint Wood is stunning..
