Al fresco today, as the inside tables were all occupied in this ever- popular landmark cafe in Holywood. Tried the Babaganoush dish, flatbread with a little of the aubergine caviar, as it's sometimes described. Two perfectly poached eggs, finely sliced beetroot, some crumbled feta, and dukkah (a mix of nuts and seeds) completed the line-up. The portion size of the babaganoush was tiny, maybe two teaspoons. For 10.50, I expected more. But very enjoyable as a Saturday brunch dish. Enjoyed a chilled glass of a wine called Ugni Blanc from Gascony, France, suggested by our hard-working server (small glass 8.50, large glass 10.50). I should mention that the service was very good, friendly, helpful, but a bit run off their feet. There were eight of us, and we were pretty demanding, but nothing we required was too much trouble. Coffee (av 3.20) and Cinnamon Scones (3.20) are very popular. The menu is full of interesting dishes which I would definitely return to try e.g. Spicy Peanut Scrambled Eggs, and the Cajun Tempura Fish Sandwich. Overall, the Bay Tree is a very good reason to visit Holywood, to prepare for a few enjoyable hours checking out the charity shops (beautiful window displays) and high-end boutiques. It's open every day, doesn't take bookings, and offers dinner on Friday evenings.

First time I've ever been revolted enough by food to make a review, ordered "Korean Pancake" as I love Buchimgae and was served a crepe that was raw in the middle with bits of cold pork on top and carrots that were completely doused in vinegar. I tried to move the vinegar carrots away but there was so much the entire dish was soaked, I am going to assume this was supposed to be Kimchi? However Kimchi isn't pickled in vinegar, its fermented in red peppers... and theres no carrots... I sent this dish back and waited for my companion to finish, they ordered poached eggs on toast and even it wasn't cooked right with clear watery egg whites. Really dissapointing as its a cute location with nice serving staff, although the man who I assume is the manager did not apologize for the poor food quality when it was sent back.

Down an entry in Hollywood. Called in for a coffee and traybake but unfortunately they only do desserts for those with a sweet tooth. Coffee was nice though but more warm than hot. Staff were pleasant. Place felt more like a canteen than a chic cafe. Although busy and appeals to some, I dont think Ill will go back.
