Booked a few days away as a surprise for my husbands birthday. Loved the photographs of Whitehill Cottage but you really have to be there to get the whole "country cottage" vibe. From the moment we arrived we felt so at home. The cottage is furnished to an exceptional standard, big sofas perfect for lounging on, a kitchen that James Martin would be happy to work in and bedrooms so cozy you won't want to leave them. The outside space is perfect for kids to play or, in our case, our dog to have a good sniff around in, close the gates though in both cases. Keep your kids and dogs under control, there is livestock in the surrounding fields, respect the countryside. Lynda is the perfect hostess, quick to reply to questions and flexible with check in/out. Be considerate though, she cleans the house to 5 star ratings between guests.....this isn't done in an hour. There is so much to see and do in the area, mountains to climb, beautiful walks, beaches, or stay in and switch off from the outside world. Leave your mobile phone behind and rediscover the art of conversation with your loved ones. I hope to be a regular visitor at this beautiful cottage for a long time to come.

Whitehill cottage is well worth a visit. Lynda was such a great host, she had a beautiful basket full of goodies ready for us on arrival, and lots of leaflets and suggestions of things to do and places to eat. The cottage itself had everything we needed and more... a beautiful wood burning stove, games, books, DVDs, even a playhouse outside, the kids enjoyed it so much their already asking when can they go back! So handy to Castlewellan and not far from Newcastle. We will definitely be back!!
