let's begin
They essentially turned a public street into a private construction site for about 14 months, blocking all the footpaths forcing pedestrians into the busy street, parking their numerous vans in the street. The remaining unblocked footpath was then blocked with skips and containers everywhere.
During the pandemic, they took weeks to start adhering to Covid best practice (masks and social distancing) however this never lasted long, and could be seen arriving in work vans together, eating their lunch together (up to 6 on occasion in the same vehicle) and generally congregating and hanging out while not working within 2m of each other. It made navigating the street to leave the house almost impossible at points, and was easier to wait until they had finished to leave. Not great feeling trapped in your own house. Other health and safety issues include using angle grinders to cut metal in the footpath, without protection or care for pedestrians in an area where there are lots of kids running about, running power cables form one property to another across the street and footpath, creating trip hazards etc.
Personal property had been covered in concrete, and despite reaching out to their admin, this was resolved by myself as the contractors appeared more than happy to attempt a lip service approach at rectifying the issue, but ultimately ignore it. The admin was less than helpful.
Then there's the cowboy approach they appeared to be taking of "by any means necessary." Construction and heavy equipment would be in use from 6am, well before the Belfast City Council allows, contractors would arrive before 6am on some days and sit outside your house with the engine running until they decided it was time to start work. After concerns were raised to the various bodies, the contractors themselves started behaving childishly and giving dirty looks etc. further adding to the lovely feeling of being trapped in your own house.
Id not recommend them to anyone, and if you are unfortunate enough to have to endure them in your area, good luck to you.
"Building and maintaining standards" not from what I experienced, nowhere close.
