I found my my overall experience with The Retreat pretty disappointing and lackluster. I had 5 sessions total plus an initial assessment session. I have no real complaints about my therapist herself just that we didn't click and I don't feel like I got anything beneficial out of our sessions. However that wasn't necessarily her fault and this review isn't targeted at her My complaints are more so with the process and procedures. I received a goal attainment form when I cancelled my last session which I hadn't seen before or filled in myself. This would have been really useful to have had and filled in myself at the start of therapy so our goals were concrete. I also found the initial over the phone questionnaires very confusing and found the processes worked against my ADHD rather than with. I think a lot of therapy was based on feelings I'd rated on a scale over the phone when feelings and emotions don't necessarily work like that. Having physical paper copies of everything at the start would have been incredibly useful. I also had a few admin issues with not being sent confirmations of appointment times or being sent the wrong appointment time, having to chase up the admin team. Which would have been fine just sometimes I had to call 3-4 times to get through and again I felt like as someone with ADHD this was not ideal. Finally what really frustrated me is when I initially inquired The Retreat were incredibly responsive and supportive. I was booked (and charged for) an appointment immediately. However when I asked to cancel future sessions, gave feedback and asked if it would be possible to just have a closing summary session where I could get some possible closure and discuss other therapy options/recommendations .. radio silence. I had a confirmation of my cancelling appointments but in terms of a follow up to discuss other options, nothing. I emailed on 4th July, it is now the 26th July. I emailed a follow up a week ago and still nothing, just a generic email to say they'd received and would be in touch once more.
