I had a long ride into York today on my motorbike. I dont get much time off as a head chef so I value my time immensely. Last couple of times Ive been to York my food choice has disappointed me. I was starving hungry. As I walked into colliergate today the sun was shining and there was beautiful operatic music being performed on the square. The Cornish bakery was the only food place with multiple tables outside so this alone decided my choice of food. The service right from the get go was excellent. I felt valued. The Pasty- it was bound to be good. It has to be sent in otherwise it couldnt be called a Cornish pasty. It was hot to eat, plentiful and satisfying. The Cup of tea I had was perfect. I rarely have pudding but I noticed a pudding in the window entitled Cornish pudding. The chef part of me recognised straight away that it was similar to a bread and butter pudding -served cold, which I love. Except this one was clearly a game changer as it had lots of added colours and bits I couldnt identify other than it was suspected fruit. I ordered that too after confirming with them it was bread and set custard. OMG! What a taste explosion and thoroughly enjoyable. I was so happy I went back in to compliment them. They were happy because its one of the things they make themselves on premises. Smiles all around! Credit where its due. I had a delectable lunch where every aspect was perfect, right down to the smiling attractive happy staff powering the customer experience in this place.
