I got the auction bug and started bidding on stuff, half of which I wanted, half I thought I could resell for a profit on eBay. Of course, it states clearly that the items are returns/seized etc. So you are buying with some risk in mind. What I didn't expect was that the VAST MAJORITY of electrical items I bought would be faulty. In fact, out of almost 2,000 spent and around 40 items I literally only have a handful of items that aren't faulty.
But that is not the worst part. The worst part was that several of the items I bought just didn't turn up. In one instance it was just missing from the delivery and in the other two boxes arrived empty. Like, literally empty.. I contacted John Pye and, of course, getting in touch with them is extremely difficult. Despite putting an email address of their website it isn't monitored. You'll just get an automated reply saying to fill in a form.
Upon informing John Pye of the missing items I was offered a replacement. This wouldn't be so bad if it was a like for like replacement. However, the 180 4k Webcam that came in an empty box was offered to be replaced by one that costs 40 on Amazon, likewise the 50 missing mouse was offered a replacement of a 10 mouse. I opted for a refund, but of course, nothing happened. Keep in mind at by this point we are already weeks into a process of trying to resolve the issue, the person who offered the refund didn't keep to his word of emailing me the offer and it took another few weeks to get the refund to my bank after several stupid excuses, such as the bank details being wrong (they weren't) and it needing to be sent to 'head office' to process where they only process refunds twice a week. My favourite excuse was that I hadn't given my middle name and therefore the payment had failed (complete nonsense).
The other item (from a different location) that didn't turn went through a whole saga of apparently checking camera footage to see what happened to the item. At the time I thought this was a good thing. It would show that my item wasn't packaged with the other items. Of course, now I know this was just part of John Pye's classic stalling technique. Maybe other customers give up?
So, if you are looking at John Pye's auctions and fancying some of the items for yourself or to resell my advice is do not touch them with a bargepole.. I tried to sell some of the items I thought weren't faulty on eBay only to get refund requests as they did turn out to be faulty or missing parts.
Avoid!
