Tucked away behind houses and surrounded by trees, St Peter's is one of the 123 round towered churches still existing in Norfolk. It was open on the day I visited and it does not disappoint. Well worth a visit if you like original features.

Peaceful and quiet church, with a large and well-maintained churchyard. The base of the tower is late Saxon, with the upper part dating to the fourteenth century. Most of the rest of the building dates to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, although there were some restorations during the Victorian period. Unfortunately, the church was closed when I visited on a Saturday morning.

I sent the following email to 3 people connected with this church, one included the vicar. I was appalled to have received no response. I was left with no option than to contact two professional bodies who are taking up this case. My email: I'd be most grateful if you could offer an explanation in relation to the felling of three ancient yew trees in St Peters churchyard, Yaxham. This action, especially during the breeding season is an absolute atrocity. All three trees were not towering over pathways, nor were they unhealthy. This appalling action is totally unacceptable. As a Master Herbalist I have a keen interest in all plant life and possess many recent photographs of all flora in this churchyard including the trees in question. It's virtually comedic that the sign within the lower churchyard states 'Please help us to maintain the beauty of this churchyard....' Where is the beauty in barren tree stumps where once life was thriving? At least one of these yews was older than my grandfather. I run a Norfolk blog/vlog which includes most churches in Norfolk, in addition the flora and fauna treasures that are to be found in this area. I have thousands of subscribers. This sacrilege will be featured this month. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, N. J. S BSc (Hons) B.A Cert.Ed AMMHTDip VTCTDip IIHHTDi
