My mother was a resident at Mendip Lodge for the 15 months up to her death in June 2019. Prior to that she had a short few weeks in another home but I and the rest of my family were not comfortable with her being there. Although in a beautiful setting & with friendly staff, the home had no soul & my mother felt lost in its hugeness. So we looked around &, on recommendation, arrived at Mendip Lodge. On first view my sister & I knew instinctively this was a place we could happily leave our mother &, whilst she would, & did, put up some resistance, were confident she would be well looked after. The manager, Jacob, spoke to us about dementia as someone who totally understood it in a way no one previously had done. He & his staff make a point of getting to know their residents, not just in their current wishes & requirements, but in their backgrounds & what interests they had enjoyed prior to their illness. So when my mother moved in, her room already had pictures acknowledging her love of tennis & of her previous profession. Its details such as these that set this home apart; the residents are real people with real amazing lives prior to their illness taking hold & the staff here recognise & acknowledge this in an honest & friendly way treating all in their care in an attentive & professional manner but, at the same time never losing their sense of humour or patience. Delicious well-cooked meals served at lunchtimes followed by homemade cakes in the afternoon are very much looked forward to. Activities are plentiful & outings always keenly anticipated. The home is small & comfortable & has a real family feel about it. Not only do the residents all know each other, but their visitors very quickly know each other too making some visits, particularly at weekends, quite a social occasion. For anyone going through the heartbreak of having to find a home for a much-loved relative, your search should stop here. I would thoroughly recommend Mendip Lodge & cant thank the wonderful staff enough for the care they gave to my mother & for the support they gave to me.
