(Translated by Google) The church was built by John of Clymping around 1230, who was rector from around 1223. Later he was bishop of Chichester from 1253 to 1262 and was involved in the construction of the cathedral. It was large for a village church - the nave and chancel together were nearly 100 feet long. The design includes the southern transept, connecting the nave with the tower, thus becoming an integral part of the building and a balance with the northern transept. The stone was brought from the quarries in Caen in Normandy. It is quite possible that the masons, like stone, came from Normandy. There are many memorial windows that are of interest to local residents. Two standards have been established; one of the Royal Naval Association and one of the Royal Air Force Association. The wooden plaque is intended for HMS Peregrine, Royal Naval Air Station in Ford during World War II. In the church yard there is a memorial to the 28 soldiers and civilians who died in the air raid on August 18, 1940. There are also a number of war graves that are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The chancel is unusually large, thirty feet long, and very showy in its overall proportions. The lancet windows in the east have a particularly beautiful frame and were installed in 1921 in memory of the men who died during World War I, as well as Reverend Henry Green, vicar from 1888-1918. The richly colored rosette glass depicts Virgin and Child is Contemporary by John Baker of Canterbury. It was installed in 1959. The pulpit comes from the 14th century, but its carved pattern refers to the architecture of the church. The North Transept, or Jesus Chapel, named after Heywood Hardy's paintings depicting the life of Christ. It was a controversial series of biblical scenes depicting Christ walking through the countryside of Sussex, surrounded by recognizable modern rural dignitaries. These panels were painted to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Clymping Church. The benches were first installed in the early 15th century; some ends of the pews at the front are original, from around 1420. The font is from the end of the 14th century.
