Beautiful railway station, well loved and looked after - we visited on a local garden day to see the flowers. Staff were friendly and welcoming - if you get a chance to go on the train its a nice experience

We were staying near Wymondham and chanced across the Mid-Norfolk Heritage Railway. We discovered there was a steam-pulled train due in ten minutes, which went to Dereham, so we decided more or less on the spur of the moment to buy return tickets. Parking was easy close to the station - Wymondham Abbey (not to be confused with Wymondham mainline station). Apparently, the heritage railway is the longest in East Anglia and was established in 1996. It was a lovely journey through the rural countryside. Dereham Station was much more substantial, with a period cafe and shop - it is the home of the railway, which is run with the help of an army of volunteers. After a short walk around Dereham, it was back to the station for the return journey. All in all an excellent afternoon, enjoying the nostalgia of the railway from a bygone era. Recommended.
