The Tintype Studio

I would recommend going to the tintype studio to anyone, not just those interested in the process, but anyone who wants a unique high quality photo. The experience with James is brilliant he is friendly, knowledgeable and highly skilled at what he does. We went not really knowing what poses we wanted, but James came up with great ideas that look really great. At no point did we feel rushed or that we were just another job for him. He made the whole day feel special. We couldn't be happier with the photos taken and will be taking pride of place on our walls. With all things considered the photos package is extremely great value. Now I'm saving to do one of his workshops to learn the ins and Outs of his extensive skills and knowledge!

The best photography workshop I have done, by a long way. James was very welcoming and friendly; he provided excellent guidance through the whole process of wet plate photography (and also an excellent lunch). By the end of the day I had a good understanding of how to make tin type photos and the beginnings of an ether habit. I would unhesitatingly recommend this to anyone interested in photography or in fact anyone at all - as an introductory day of creative practice it would be very hard to find anything better.

Tintype Studio I have wanted 1860's style tintype photographs of my wife and myself for sometime. This was prompted by my interest in the American CIvil War. Last month we "bit the bullet" (pun intended) and set up a session at the Tintype Studio. We were greeted by the photographer; James Millar and we discussed our wishes. I wore my Scottish Highland regalia and my wife wore Polish National Dress. We had a lot of fun setting up the poses and we got three excellent 10"x8" full length portraits that could have come direct from a Victorian studio. We next moved to a more intimate studio to have individual head and shoulder portraits taken. Again the results exceeded my expectations. The 160 (ish) year old process gives amazing skin tones. The whole process took about 3 hours and was one of the best afternoons we have had in a long time. We were made to feel very comfortable by James.
