My review is of abbeyfield shop. Went to Ferring today to do some research on services available in the area. The shop does not show on Google maps. I parked my car in the abbeyfield customer parking, nipping to another shop prior to entering this one. After returning to the car after the first shop, I found my car boxed in by a blue car. I went to a few shops to enquire if it was anyone's car. Found out it was a member of staff that work for Abbeyfield. Very passive aggressive, very unwelcoming and poor customer service. She was very sarcastic, not apologetic at all. Why would I want to have someone provide services for my elderly relative when the manager is like that? How do they treat their service users? How do they treat their staff? Customer service starts from the moment you approach the door, but if customers are going to get deliberately boxed in by a member of staff in a passive aggressive stance of "this is private property, Abbeyfield customers only", then why as a customer would I want your services?? Unbelievable poor customer service, unwelcoming, unfriendly.

I am so happy with The Old School House and with the staff there. My mother was accepted there just before Christmas in 2012 and is well cared for and very happy. She has been there just over a year now and quite comfortable and settled in. The manager, Lorraine Richardson is absolutely exceptional in keeping me in the loop over things that are helpful to know about how my Mum is. I really appreciate this as I live in Australia and worry about her. The distance and the time difference make it hard but I know that Mum is safe and well looked after. All the staff have been wonderful and I particularly have appreciated Jackie helping Mum get on Skype so we can see each other from time to time and Mum can show me things and I can see how she is. Another member of staff I have had a lot to do with is Mary, one of the companions, who is a dose of sunshine. Mum enjoys the company of the other residents, they are all such interesting ladies, and there are lots of regular activities they are all encouraged to join in on. I know the food is wonderful, as have eaten there quite a few times. The cooks there all do a great job to accommodate different preferences and really make an occasion of all the birthdays and special days, including Valentines Day and Christmas. Mums room is light and spacious and everything is always spotlessly clean. The laundry is done really well. It is a small home, which makes it rather special and unique. It is perched next to the library and across from the doctor and dentist and post office so very centrally located. It is next to the village green with several major bus stops. What really makes the difference there though for me, is the degree of care and respect all the residents are given by the staff. Lorraine is managing an exceptional home. I feel extremely lucky that Mum and I found it and there was a room available at the right time. I have been extremely impressed by all my contact with Abbeyfield and only wish there was one here in Perth, Australia.
