Mr James Lewis

James carried out a Revision Total Knee Replacement three weeks ago. The results are superb and I cant thank him enough for helping me in what was a very important operation for me to remove pain and carry on with my life.

Just excellent. Explained his hip replacement process clearly and succinctly on arrival at hospital, then kept me informed immediately before the operation and on recovery how it had gone. Would recommend Mr Lewis for his care, information and the pain control process prior to discharge.

I have recently undergone a double knee replacement with James Lewis. I feel I must write a considered review to share with others to encourage them to seek James out for a completely different approach to Knee replacement. From my Initial consultation approx 1 year previous when he said to me this was a journey I was unsure what to expect , having been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in both knees I was told I needed 2 knee replacements immediately by another surgeon, I came away from that appt. feeling shell shocked and did some research sought a second opinion and found James and thank goodness I did , he explained everything to me at the first consultation and it was agreed that ultimately I would need 2 Conformis total knee replacements but it would help me greatly if I could lose some weight before having them to enhance my recovery times and in the meantime I had a series of cortisone injections to keep me mobile and help with pain relief . When I achieved this and also the injections appeared not to work as before we agreed that I would have the first operation scheduled for January this year with the second 6 weeks later. Now it is the end of April and I wont pretend its been a picnic for the whole journey but I was looked after by James and his team at Goring, the support second to none, from the day of the operation when I spent 36 hrs in hospital , No crutches or sticks after 48 hours and walking on my own from then onwards, James was always on hand to help with advice with regard to any issues I had and I can honestly say it is the best support I have ever been given by any Surgeon. Everything was explained at every step of the way and any fears I had were allayed. Wow is all I can say I now have my life back ! I had not realised how much I had lost until I have got it back and I am now walking between 1 1/4 miles and 1-3/4 miles most days for my rehab with no pain. I still have some stiffness but I know this will pass in the next few months. If you have any doubts about having knee replacement's please talk to James he is a fantastic surgeon I cannot recommend him enough his methods are unique and the recovery time is amazing! Be guided by him and his unique methods and choose Conformis if he suggests it. Thank you James

I had my left knee replaced by Mr James Lewis at Goring Hall Hospital using the Conformis total knee replacement. He came highly recommended by several people who all commented on the rapid speed of recovery using the Confirmis knee. Having suffered for years of pain and unable to do much sport Im now looking forward to going back to being much more active. Cant wait to go snowboarding again this coming winter! I walked (slowly and with sticks) on the day (!) after the operation and my knee felt normal. No more pain! My leg will be swollen for a while as a result of the operation but it is a doddle compared to my wifes replacement of her femur done in London. She could only start standing on her leg three months after the operation. The level of care in the whole procedure is phenomenal. Everything is explained properly and James takes his time for it. Old style attention to detail. The care and the food at Goring Hall was fantastic and always delivered with a smile. If you need your knee(s) replaced then James Lewis is only one surgeon I can recommend.

After many years of suffering with excruciating pain in both my knees. I couldnt take the pain anymore, so I made an appointment to see Mr James Lewis, Orthopaedic Surgeon, at Goring Hall Hospital for his expert opinion and to discuss the results of my x-rays. I was not surprised to see just how bad both my knees were, all the cartilage in both my knees was gone. Mr Lewis words They are both shot. After a long discussion of the options open to me, I knew I needed to move ahead with surgery very quickly because my walking was so limited and painful. I decided to go for the conformist custom full knee replacements on both knees. At 81 years of age, I was concerned about having these procedures, however, Mr Lewis explained everything to me, he gave me great confidence going forward, he explained articulately in great detail what would happen before, during and after each operation. He answered all my questions with patience, and he completely assured me that the whole experience would be life changing. His last words to me as I was leaving his consulting room were Ill have you walking again, pain free! How true those words are, I now have the quality of my life back, walking pain free. His system is very efficient with lots of emails on pre-operation information. I felt that the attention to detail was outstanding and very supportive throughout. I found this extremely helpful in my decision making and preparation. Both operations, September and November 2022, as expected were a great success and the support and care I received was second to none. A big thank you to Mr Lewis and his dedicated team of anaesthetists and theatre staff; they were all fantastic. I also wish to bring to your attention the professionalism of all the nursing staff who cared for me throughout my recovery, they were outstanding, very thoughtful and kind and for providing an exceptional service during my double stay at Goring Hall. The knowledgeable care I received was absolutely brilliant and my two short stays on Ilex Ward was just incredible. I feel very privileged to have been treated so well and made to feel so very special! A huge thank you to you all. Recovery can be the hardest part after major surgery; however, I have to say the nursing and physio teams were wonderful with me. They paid constant attention making sure that I felt comfortable at whatever time. I am now slowly recovering at home with all the aftercare instructions, medication, the physio exercises and what to do and what not to do. Im pottering about without the sticks now, slight muscular discomfort now and again but without that severe pain, Im getting there, slowly but surely! Both knees feel brilliant, they now feel more like my own normal knees. Its still a work-in progress, its onwards and upwards from now on! Help or advice was always on hand, to talk through any issues or worries I may have had, I had a few! All resolved very promptly and professionally. I am so pleased that I found Mr Lewis on my google search and will be recommending him to anyone who asks, so if you are considering a knee replacement, dont hesitate to contact Mr James Lewis: I cant praise him and his dedicated teams and Goring Hall staff highly enough.
