I had a particular interest in visiting this church as a number of my ancestors who died in the 1700's were buried there - their family names were Dolling and Pyke and they lived at Dunshay. One of the frustrations of old gravestones is the effect of erosion which removes all signs of inscriptions and leaves a blank stone. The one exception to this at St Nicholas are the graves of Benjamin Jesty who found an inoculation against smallpox and his wife Elizabeth as will be seen from the picture I took of their grave . It was interesting to note that they lived at Dunshay some years after my ancestors had passed away. The church is well maintained and situated in a delightful village where time seems to have stood still.

A stunning village church, with many ancient features including some rather nice Norman stonework.
