My husband has been at this home for the past 4 yrs and 3 months, moving to the nursing unit to meet his increasing medical needs last August . The move itself reflects the management response to changing needs. Since his move his medical needs have been managed well and I've been kept informed of every change however small. All visiting restrictions have been lifted and I've visited him at various times of day unannounced .I'm made welcome and allowed to spend time with him at a place of my choosing within the unit .The unit is clean and so are the residents and I'm grateful to the carers for their care and professionalism.

Our father passed away a few weeks ago as a result of wilful neglect in this home. Our father and our family expected him to be safe and cared for at Puddingstone Grange. They themselves had a legal duty to ensure that safe care and treatment was provided to him in the home, But, they did not take reasonable steps nor did they exercise due diligence to ensure safe care and treatment was provided, as they failed to implement basic measures to mitigate the known risk of him falling. Policy was not followed and carers attempted to hide their actions by deliberately falsifying record of events to cover up the lack of care they provided. This all constitutes wilful neglect, as this was the deliberate ill treatment of our father, that was reckless and not due to any genuine errors or misunderstandings. This home has poor leadership from top down, resulting in poor. inadequate and dangerous staff. Please remember carers do not work for themselves, they are employed, managed and trained by Avante , and if they are not fit for purpose, the responsibility lies with management regarding the staff they recruit. This is not just an individual problem of the care staff in this s care home, it is the poor overall culture of the home, lack of staff, the lack of adequately trained staff, and the value of revenue over the care, dignity and safety of service users. As for the Eden Alternative, it does not exist at Puddingstone Grange, although they claim it is at the core of everything they do. The negative states of loneliness, helplessness and boredom are not alleviated in any way shape or form. They do not encourage social interaction , as they regularly left our father alone in his room to eat and sleep for extended periods. They always closed the bedroom door and left him to his own devices. They did not have any routine for him, which dementia service users need, the carers just do what they do whenever they do it, which further confuses those with dementia. They clearly do not have competent and understanding staff who have been trained fully in understanding the care required for those with mental health conditions and dementia. This is supposed to be a specialist dementia unit, yet they do do not know how to care for those with dementia or how to give them the respect and dignity that they deserve. There are a few genuinely good carers there, but they are heavily outweighed by the overall poor standards at this home. They do not know how to provide basic day to day care, as treat those without capacity as though they have capacity and do not utilise strategies to ensure services users are clean and well cared for, instead leaving them unwashed and in the same clothes for days. Even with hospital/ health appointments, that the care home have advance notice of, they dont help them to get washed and dressed, they just leave them. They simply do not know how to care nor do they care about people. They will not treat your loved one as a person. Do NOT place your vulnerable loved ones in this so called. care home. The only thing we can do is try to prevent others from ever being treated in this way. It is heartbreaking to even have to write this review, but it is the truth. Do your checks. We will forever regret the day we trusted them to care for our father . Dont make that mistake (Also, Please see the recent reviews on here and other websites regarding this home from February , March and April-2022 -check when the last reviews were dated before that They are pushing new reviews to give a positive spin to the care home because of this incident)

UNFORTUNATELY...-0 STARS IS NOT POSSIBLE!!! I wouldn't trust this place to care for a loaf of breat let alone a vulnerable human being!! Absolutely disgusting, disgraceful and inhumane treatment of those in their supposed 'care'. They care about nothing more than the figures, income and pay cheques. You would expect staff here to have at least some form of medical training...Basic logical practices within an environment with sick vulnerable people, would surely be normal. NOT HERE!!!. Please do not think for one second this abysmal place will give a hoot about your family members basic needs...THEY WILL NOT!!!! Your loved one is just a source of income...full stop!!!! Don't let the surroundings fool you. If you want your loved on to perish sooner than they should...for what ever strange reason...by all means ignore my warnings...but it you truly care for someone who is in need of some extra care...please PLEASE do not bring them here!!! The attitude from staff is is tantamount to fully fledged abuse and neglectful enjoyment in seeing those in their care suffer, humiliation and trauma on top of their already weakened minds and bodies. Why any human being would mistreat someone who is already so vulnerable is beyond comprehension. Only a sick and twisted individual would do such a thing...can you imaging what a group of them would enforce on your loved one???? Please bring your family member here if you really DON'T care what their fate will hold...its the perfect place for it...ignoring patients needs, inflicting humiliation, lack of compassion, ignorance, not even some form of basic medical knowledge between them. So much so patience are loosing their lives prematurely purely due to their incompetence, dismissive attitudes, lack of training and greed!!!!!!! Be it on your conscience if my words are not marked with the utmost of caution. The people that come here are REAL people...they are loved, cherished and adored by their families friends and neighbours. They should NOT just be thought of as objects that line your pockets. They are someone's parent, spouse, sibling, grandparent etc!!! How dare they neglect mistreat and ignore the needs of the vulnerable. Purely for the sake of money!!! It's sick!!!! Capitalism in its purest form. Don't let your loved one become a statistic of this Godforsaken hell hole!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!
