Customer service and general pleasant manners are dead here!! Unhelpful staff, shouts your balance around the bank, writing it down for the customer is too difficult for one of their cashiers. Cant even follow your instructions and then tuts because they dont know the difference between withdrawal and transfer.

Just wanted to give high praise for all staff involved at the Finchfield Wolverhampton Branch who helped me in October. My query was quite complex first I called the branch and Amandeep was so helpful ,located the correct form and printed it ready for me to collect, she was very friendly and professional and when I visted realised she was new, it was quite busy and she handled this maintaining friendliness and professionalism. When I returned the completed form a few days later, I was required to speak to a central team by phone, Tracy took me through the whole process from start to finish, of which was very lengthy, the process was completed and I left the branch the same day with everything sorted and I couldnt have done this without the exemplar help from Amandeep and Tracy. It really highlights how important local branches are (I couldnt get to the one in town) and it is quite rare to receive such great services, thank you Nationwide, you have always gone above and beyond!

My elderly mother went into the Finchfield branch recently to withdraw a few hundred pounds in order to pay for some alterations to her bathroom. When she got back into my car and checked her money, we realised that she had been issued with several hundred pounds in old paper (non polymer) Adam Smith 20 notes. I understand that they are still legal tender until next year. However, the Bank of England is encouraging people to deposit them well before the date. Other banks and building societies dont issue them any longer. My elderly mother should not have been issued with them and particularly not issued with this amount of them. It wasnt as if the notes were in good condition, as more than half of them were very grimy with charcoal-coloured, stained edges. Three of the notes were covered in lots of revolting brown stains and streaks. We did not feel that we wanted to spend them in shops or give them to bathroom fitters and plumbers out of respect for them and we were concerned that some businesses may choose to refuse large amounts of the old paper notes, at this stage. So, we deposited the lot in an account at another bank, which caused both my mother and I some inconvenience. I suspect that my mother was given these notes because she is elderly, partially sighted and vulnerable. When I accompanied my mother to this branch a few months ago, one female member of staff was laughing about an elderly male customer because he had dementia and he was confused by the queuing system. The member of staff made a number of sarcastic and insensitive remarks about the gentleman. My mother keeps her account open here for the moment because it is convenient as she lives locally and isnt well. However, having seen what Ive seen, I would never open an account here. Customers are too often treated with contempt.
