Wolvercote Lakes is owned by the Oxford Preservation Trust. The site was given to it by Mr Vivian Kirk whose family owned the property. The reserve has two lakes - a large one and a much smaller one. The sole entrance into the park is from Godstow Road which forms the southern boundary of the site. The path runs northwards and then slightly curves to the east between the two lakes until visitors come to the railings protecting the railway lines which form the sites eastern border. So, the sole path in the park does not run around the entire site. It gets only halfway around it. The good news is that this means the areas which have no path can remain totally secluded and thus increasingly wild over time which is bound to be good for wildlife. It is possible to see the two lakes in their entirety but not from all sides. The two lakes are surrounded by sumptuous greenery. It has park benches dotted along the path and even a couple of huts which can be used to spy on the wildlife. This is a place which positively encourages visitors to sit-back and enjoy the scenery. Firstly because it offers wooden benches to sit quietly and relatively undisturbed and, secondly, because it is a rich habitat which can be observed in depth. This site like others belonging to the Oxford Preservation Trust has lots of colourful and attractive information boards pointing out the lakes inhabitants. This is not a nature reserve Id heard of before but its a fabulous and extremely beautiful place to visit. The Oxford Preservation Trust owns and manages Wolvercote Lake Simons Land Heyford Meadow
