St Mary's Church is very special to our family. The Featherstone family lived in the corner house at Wharram from the 1930s until 2020. My grandma used to clean the church and ring the church bell for my grandad to bring more hot water. My mum and aunty were married there and I and cousins were christened there. My Grandma Grandad and Uncle Albert are buried in the church yard. As children we would go to church services and would giggle at the old ladies singing in high voices and be scolded by our parents. The church has a special place in our heart's we visit as often as we can and it is always immaculate.

The tower of St Mary's church is late Anglo-Saxon although the very top is said to have been added during the early Norman period along with the rest of the church, this lovely grade 1 listed building is bult along side the old Roman road ( as indicated in the prefix "le street" ) from Malton to Beverley, located down a wooded lane and is just over a mile from the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy. The west door on the tower has been blocked up with a small window at the top, note at the top of the left pillar you'll see a fossilised ammonite.

This is a very old church in the middle of the Wolds with some parts of it dating back to Saxon times (this is evident by the tower). The church itself is slightly more modern inside but that, and the churchyard, are very tranquil. The church serves the community of Wharram-le-Street which is a small village.
