        Nice stroll on the evening - Hopton Tunnel is not lit so can be a bit dark bug it's only a short tunnel. (Picture from last Spring)

        Railway tunnel on the trail, it has a concrete floor so it's easy to walk through. One of the few tunnels that you can walk through.

        We never tire of walking through here! (It is very cycle-friendly too with a good path surface). It is a marvel how this ex-railway tunnel was built all those years ago with such hard work and primitive tools. How fantastic that it is still open and has found a new use upon the High Peak Trail. It is always sad when tunnels are sealed off and abandoned. The best place to park for this experience is Middleton Top Visitor Centre (modest charges but surfaced and safe).
