A Total Letdown at The Dog Pentrich - No Food, No Drinks, No Fun I hate to do this, but I feel compelled to share my recent disappointing experience at The Dog Pentrich. My friends and I had planned an evening out to enjoy some good food and drinks at this place, which we heard had a nice ambiance and a great menu. Unfortunately, our high expectations were met with complete and utter disappointment. When we arrived at The Dog Pentrich, we were taken aback by the dark and empty establishment. We checked our watches to confirm the time, and yes, it was well within their regular operating hours. We even double-checked the website, which clearly stated that they should have been open and serving customers. To say we were frustrated would be an understatement. We tried to get some answers by calling the phone number listed online, but it went straight to voicemail. There was no explanation or notice posted on the door or on their social media pages to inform customers about any unexpected closures or changes in their operating hours. This lack of communication left us feeling quite disrespected as customers. It's one thing to have an off day or an emergency that requires a temporary closure, but it's another thing entirely to leave customers in the dark. Our group was left scrambling to find another place to dine, and the whole experience put a damper on our evening. Unfortunately, as a result of this poor experience, I cannot recommend The Dog Pentrich to anyone looking for a reliable place to enjoy food and drinks. It's incredibly disappointing when you have your heart set on a nice evening out, only to be let down by a closed establishment that should have been open. Save yourself the trouble and choose a more dependable spot for your next outing.

WELL WELL.. THEY HAVE NOW CLOSED - sadly Im not surprised with all the bad reviews Booked Sunday lunch for 3 with a limited Sunday menu - not cheap (2 roasts for 50) One of our party was asked if she was OK with roast duck being pink - and when asking if it could be cooked more, was told that she couldn't! On this news she looked at other 4 choices and none really suited so she mentioned to the young lady that the menu was quite limited and eventually had to chose a starter. The lady left with our order. Within a few minutes an older lady came over to the table and acquired if our guest was not happy with the menu choices then she should have looked on line before coming - this she repeated several times in a very curt way. She also informed us that we upset the young girl - although our suggestion was that it was the fault of the restaurant for not training their staff in dealing with customer questions. The lady left quite angry with us for not checking the menu. All of a sudden we were faced with a very angry man in chefs clothes (he was shaking he seemed very angry) who came and leaned over our table to say he was not prepared to feed us and told us to get out! Both him and the older lady were shouting at the same time. At no point did we raise our voices, nor did we shout at the young girl who took our order. Sadly she just couldn't cope with a customer questioning the limited menu. The man leaned into the table contining to shout and shake with rage saying he refused to serve anyone who shouted at his staff! ironically! not quite sure how on earth this very aggressive angry incident came from questioning a young employee who had clearly not been trained in dealing with customers. We are all still a bit shell shocked ! Having any tall man, as a women, leaning over you and shouting is quite dauting. It was absolutely appalling and we wish the pub luck who clearly read this situation very different than its customers and need to train their staff. The managers really have a problem here and it will be feed back. We can not comment on the food as we were thrown out. Luckily we managed to drive a little way and experienced an excellent visit at The Excavator in the same village and service and food could not have been better after this very traumatic visit the The Dog!

Excellent food and service. We had pie of the day which turned out to be Steak and Pancetta, Mash and minted peas. It was beautiful and very tasty. Partnered with a Pint of Ale - just what you need with this cold, frosty weather!
