Summer Palace

It's cash only. I didn't order because I only pay by card. It didn't have a great welcome and the place was full of condensation and was freezing. I felt sorry for the member of staff taking phone orders. Cash only, not even allowing bank transfers. Parking: Double yellow lines directly outside. Difficult to park legally.

First time choosing Summer Palace for our Chinese takeaway tonight, and most definitely will be our last time too. The Chicken Chow mien was flavourless and had some sort of water residue left over in the tub, by which time I got home the condensation of this water caused the noodles to become really wet and sloppy. The chicken didnt taste too convincing either.. The Sweet and sour chicken balls were a disappointment too. More batter than actual chicken, stodgy in texture and quite simply not tasty. The crispy shredded beef was OK. Didnt look very appetising to how Ive had it before. Was a bit too chewy also. The seaweed was really chewy, not chopped finely enough for any of our likings.. inedible. Lastly the duck in plum sauce, not pictured, was nice. However, for 7.80 we would have expected more than one/two pieces between the 3 of us ! When we phoned up afterwards to let them know how disappointed we were they shouted back at us and told us that we were in the wrong. An expensive meal for over 3/4 of it to go in the bin .. We wont be going back and wouldnt recommend Summer palace to anyone considering a Chinese takeaway. (The rest of the food, not pictured, wasnt eaten. It was pushed around our plate before it all went in the bin. I thought it would be a bit too much to post a photo of our food bin..) Dietary restrictions: We originally wanted a different duck dish but when we questioned whether it contained peanuts ( severe allergy ) they were unsure.. this should have been an instant red flag.

Not sure why this place has bad reviews. Prompt and speedy, could of been more chips in the portion but good nonetheless.

Was told food would be ready in 45 minutes went there on time to end up waiting a further 30 minutes!! No apology or anything and was just left to stand there with no update or apology for the delay!! Bbq chips were revolting barely any sauce on them at all! Meat spring rolls were the smallest I've ever been given from any Chinese! Noodles undercooked! Could tell chicken balls were sat a while! Shredded beef has no flavour at all! Definitely avoid!!
