Oakwood Lodge is not a full on 'care home', it's a Retirement Living PLUS scheme home. Residents can keep their independence whilst knowing that if they need assistance it's a call, press of a button or pull of a cord away. The flat my relative lived in was a single. It had a kitchen with cupboards, storage space, plenty of sockets and you provide the white goods. There is a large living room that can easily fit a three piece suite and tv and it also has plenty of sockets and access to a tv aerial. The bedroom with built in wardrobe is easily big enough for a double bed, dressing table, bedside cabinet and more. The bathroom/ wet room consists of a toilet, basin and shower. It also has towel rails and mobility accessories where needed. There is also a cupboard where you can keep your ironing board, vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket and brushes etc. Meals are prepared in the main kitchen and served in the communal room where residents can gather and chat, eating in company of friends. In addition to the communal lounge/ dining room/ entertainment room/ activity area, there are laundry facilities and a room used for hairdressing and haircuts. There are activities arranged every once in a while and there is a garden that residents can go and sit in and/ or garden using the greenhouse facility. Staff provide wellness checks, cleaning and laundry services, also prescription ordering amongst other services. Most are charged for. The Retirement Living PLUS scheme offers peace of mind and security, with a 24-hour emergency call system, an onsite supervisor team/ manager and a tailored care package if needed. I would highly recommend this 'home' to anyone looking for a comfortable and independent lifestyle in their later years.
