Based on the many months my relative spent in Aaron Crest I would not recommend this care home. My relative was not listened to and felt at times humiliated by staff. Although there a few decent and caring staff the majority were unhelpful, unapproachable, lacked empathy and were very defensive. Sometimes I felt that staff didn't put the needs and care of residents first but acted in a way that was convenient or easy for themselves. There were a few days when the carers didn't dress my relative and they had to spend the whole day in night clothes because no other clothes were available. This was mentioned to the manager who then reprimanded me for not telephoning her at home on the particular Saturday when it occurred. Some senoir carers always made out that the family were responsible if the relative was upset, unhappy or complaining. They never considered the own shortcomings. My relative was imtimidated when carers listened to phonecalls and reported back on them or when carers opened their letters and sat in on family window visits. There was little privacy or chance of open conversation about how they found Aaron Crest. This was difficult for the family as our relative was very unhappy. We found that calls weren't returned and emails to the manager needed alot of follow up before you got even a partial response. There were promises made that were never fulfilled. For example my relative needed their fingernails cutting and although on 2 occasions carers promised to arrange it nothing happened. My relatives nominated senior carer was a disappointment. She had no time to discuss or explain issues of care. When my relative needed to attend a hospital appointment the nominated senior carer was only interested in getting it cancelled. There are some very good carers at Aaron Crest who deserve praise - the carer who organises activities, a young male senior carer and a very kind carer who did the 8 am to 8pm shifts three times a week. The best thing the family did was to remove the relative from Aaron Crest.
