My guest bedroom was water damaged due to a leak in my roof. My home insurance contracted Hemmings and Marshalsea to assess the damage. My home insurance did not cover the damaged roof but it did cover re-plastering the water damaged area and re-painting the whole room. The plasterer showed up on time, was very kind and did a great job. The decorator arrived on time 2 days later (after the plaster dried) and did a fantastic job painting the room. He was very kind and considerate also. I felt comfortable leaving him alone in my house while I was at work.

Due to my roof leaking, one of my rooms was damaged. They followed Covid rules, which was extremely important to me as I'm clinically extremely vulnerable - it was urgent work that had to be done. Water had detroyed my ceiling which had to be removed/replaced/replastered/repainted and the room had to be redecorated. I can't fault them. The work was done to a high standard and although I didn't see much of them (due to Covid), it was a pleasure to have them in my home. Many thanks to all - I'm extremely pleased with the outcome. Services: Paint indoors, Remodeling, Refurbishment

Hemmings and Marshalsea Ltd were used by our insurers to oversea the renovations at our property following an incident with our boiler. They were responsible for overseeing the works, booking contractors to carry out the renovations and handling communications between ourselves and the contractors. On responsibility 1. It became very clear that they were incapable of supervising the work. They made infrequent visits to the property and as a result things were overlooked and mistakes made that required me to attend the property more frequently than anticipated. When it came to the date to move in the property had not been properly cleared making it unsafe for my toddler so I was unable to move the family in, which incurred additional moving to an intermediate location and additional cost to the insurer. On responsibility 2, the traders selected were a mixed bag. The painter decorators did fast work but delivered a poor finish with gaps in the painted surfaces around plug sockets and in corners. The tilers did a great job of getting the tiles up but couldnt follow simple instructions so delivered 2 floor to ceiling tiled bathrooms which were not as requested. The movers that cleared the house before the works began did not clear out the fitted wardrobes which meant all the clothes had to be dry cleaned, incurring additional coordination time and cost. Further because the wardrobes were not cleared the painter decorators just ignored these spaces altogether meaning we had to get additional visits for this work to be completed. The cleaning company that was hired to clean the property turned up the same day that the boxes and bulky items from storage were returned to the property so could only clean half the house and in the end we cleaned the property ourselves because the guys idea of cleaning was to wave a steam cleaner over every surface which left a cloudy residue everything. On responsibility 3, I would say the Hemmings and Marshalsea team were adequate. Responses were relatively quick and the staff we dealt with were relatively professional. We had a snagging list of some 30+ items which the team turned around relatively quickly allowing us to get back into the property only 1 week later than originally planned. Finally, we asked for a few extras for which we were willing to pay the additional cost however despite asking twice for an itemised bill of the the works carried out we did not receive one. Instead we got a single line invoice with no indication of how this figure was arrived at expecting us to fork out 1200+ on blind faith. Given the above I would not recommend this company unless you want the additional stress of taking on at least 2 out of 3 responsibilities above. If you have time use your own contractors. We needed a quick turn around which meant getting quotes and arranging for the work to be carried out would not have got us back into our property before Christmas. The benefit of using the insurer provided company was purely speed of turnaround.
