As the reviews from 4 years ago state (things clearly havent changed), the hotels decor is very tired and this place is well past its best - which is a shame as there is a lot of potential here. Staff were friendly - but not the most professional or possibly not a tightly run ship & standards slipping?.. Went for a drink in the bar which was empty with 3/4 pumps out of action - used glasses and bottles all over the tables - nobody bothering to clean it up even though several staff walking around. On top of that in the morning, management loudly talking about raising prices on food/drink items on the basis that they dont want to have to hand out change? Just naff - do it out of earshot of your guests type of place that would get ripped apart on Four in a bed.

This hotel is set in large grounds and was a stately home in the past. We were there 10 years ago and decided to return. Unfortunately the owners had decided to sell the property and the new owners were not able to accommodate our group of 10 with the full range of amenities advertised when we had originally booked. We decided to continue with our booking as the owners offered discounted room rates. They were not able to offer the evening meal which had been booked so only bed and breakfast basis. The service from the staff was professional and the breakfast was adequate although several items of food were missing from the plate with no explanation other than they were having trouble with the gas hobs. The building was due for a total refurbishment according to the new owners and this was evident in the rooms and public areas which were looking tired decor and design wise. We had a nice time out at some local pubs for food. All in all the hotel was comfortable if a bit shabby in places. I might try it again in another 10 years.
