The highlight of my entire trip. This is a magical place that cannot be adequately described with pictures. It's just not comparable with Stonehenge. You're surrounded by grassland and hills as far as the eye can see. There are a LOT of stones, thousands, over the massive moor that you're completely free to explore without crowds. I remember the moment when I "understood" this place: I was standing on a prominent stone slab and oriented my body so that I was facing another nearby stone, which aligned to a prominent distant hill where I could faintly see contained another ritual site with stone rows. I turned and faced a different nearby stone, which also aligned with a distant site. I'm not a spiritual person at all, but I could just feel "something" breathtaking about this place. Dartmoor is out of the way, yes, but do not miss this. Beware that after you climb the short hill, you'll be hit with wind and it becomes a LOT colder.

Multiple stone rows, standing stones, a stone circle and cairns (burial mounds) from the Bronze Age on a fairly remote part of Dartmoor. One of the menhirs is 3 metres tall and the largest on Dartmoor. How did these pre-historic people put these remarkable structures in place? What was their spiritual significance? Who were buried in the mounds?
