Whilst im sure this site is loved by many..... I'm afraid we really didnt benefit from it at all ,because we were given a pitch right next to their caravan storage facility and right next to the entrance . A noisy main road close by , a dog barking somewhere during the day and a really strong smell of manure in the air gets you in a rural, country mood. you have to park in a very exact position and are guided into this personally by the owner, ....backwards , forwards , backwards again until its just right for her. This was an exciting first for us in two years of owning a camper van...... Seriously , the pitch is quite large and it really isnt rocket science to understand how to pitch a camper, especially after over 40 years of us using campsites. I really did not like being treated like a naughty child until I did it right. It was very offputting but the lady did apologise politely for me being confused. After driving for 3 hours in the driving rain, this was the last thing I needed to be doing and It has never happened to me before when arriving at a site... Dont be led astray by the apparently low price of 22 a night because you have to pay extra for everything imaginable. Showers 50p for 4 minutes. Tv ariel extra charge, Awning extra charge. Day visitors have to sign a book and pay a charge to enter. No extra cars are allowed on site but extra car parking is available and charged for at the entrance . We didnt have anything extra of course. There are cameras pointing all over the site, which I do know is necessary these days ,but even though we are often on camera, it was still a bit unnerving to have one pointing straight at our van all the time. The bin emptying and caravan moving with a tractor was very loud almost daily on the path right next to us. Though I hasten to add it was never at night which was always fairly quiet . The elsan dump was right behind our van over the fence so that was really easy for us to use and we had the added excitement of watching others dump their excrement as well. Yay.. whats not to love. There are loads and loads of site rules printed up all over the place....if you are at all uncertain how to behave as a camper.. you certainly wont be unsure anymore after reading them all.. Overall though, we had a nice, fairly quiet ,relaxing week using our own shower and toilet facilities and doing a lot of walking . There is a nice little honesty shed with a few useful items for sale including ices and local eggs . Also a book swap and walk leaflets e Everywhere is very nice and clean and the walks down the canal through the heavily barred and coded gate are magnificent. Canal locks and narrowboats galore. The country perfume on site however was an unpleasant bonus and very strong. That was obviously not the sites fault though. Will we ever return...think you may know the answer ...
