Beach House

The main living area is beautiful with stunning views but taking this factor away the house just didnt meet basic expectations in other areas. Main issue was the useless mattresses in the twin bed room. Our first night we had almost zero sleep and woke up with bad backs (which we never suffer from).We cannot fault the managements response to this and the mattresses were changed quickly. However this should not have been an issue in the first place. Other issues include the curtains in the bedrooms. They do not block out any light what so ever, so we were woken very early. Bring a sleep mask if you find this an issue. The toaster isnt very good. So slow to toast I almost considered putting it on before bed so it would be ready for the morning!!!! Also some of the furniture is beyond rustic charm and just needs replacing. The knob on the double bedroom dresser falls out. The upstairs bathroom really needs replacing. Mould around the trims, very dated, and probably the original bathroom from the house. Small point also blunt scissors in the kitchen draw. Downstairs bathroom floor tile trim hanging off and the tap pressure is so strong water jumpers out of the sink all over you and walls! Also bathroom door has annoying hook to lock its which is difficult to use. Lots of doors downstairs broken with the latches not working and therefore doors dont stay open or closed as desired. This must be a long term issue as our room had a door stop to hold the door open and closed. Finally in booking email we were told we would get a toilet roll and spare in each bathroom. We arrived to half a used roll. Again a very small thing but adds to the perception that we are not valued guests. Overall impression was that its just needs some simple maintenance and a bit of investment to be excellent. I feel the owner is scrimping on investment and doing minimum to keep it passable and it shows!

Whitby has always been my favourite place to visit, the spooky location and history but this house was something else from stepping in there was a definite bad vibration to say the least. If anything could go wrong for us it did,from illness to bickering. If your looking to have a holiday with a benevolent ghost you will be in luck. Location wise was excellent the house was nice bit over priced but taking the free parking into account was a bonus.
