Fantastic B&B. Close to all amenities. Spotlessly clean. John was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Made to feel very welcome. Gorgeous breakfast! This is our second stay and will definitely be returning x Rooms: Small but exceptionally clean and cosy

Was hoping to go mountain climbing in Scotland but a back injury from a previous expedition meant I needed an alternative. Having fought like a cornered lion to get the annual leave I wanted to head away and I thought I'd treat myself to a long weekend in Whitby with a bargain 2 bus journey from West Yorkshire. I did some research and Smugglers Rest looked good and was at a quality price so booked!! The check-in times are from 2.30-4.30pm. My transport wouldn't arrive until slightly later so I had some discussion with John who said to contact him when I was 30 mins away. Small single room but suited me just fine. Nicely decorated, good temperature and really clean. The bathroom is huge - a floor down and for private use with the room. The breakfast was amazing. Nice coffee. Really well looked-after. John was very friendly and chatty with me and the other guests. Location is great. A 10 mins walk from the town centre. 5 mins from the promenade and walk from Whitby to Sandsend. Plenty to see and do. The buses were all 2 single to anywhere so took trips out to Saltburn and Scarborough. Really enjoyed my stay. Massive thanks to John and Donna for their hospitality and making such an amazing base.
