Booked for my husbands 61st Birthday Arrived and couldnt park out front so I ran in to speak to reception staff Was told without even being looked in the eye that there was no parking available at the hotel but public parking could be found at the back of the hotel. The room would not be ready until 2.30pm but we could drop our cases off We managed to find a space, eventually - 10 for overnight stay and then checked in with quite possibly the rudest little man we have ever met who told us we couldnt book a dinner reservation for 8pm as there was no room - I work in customer service and this chap could certainly do with some training. He said we couldnt understand his accent. We had no trouble with his accent. It was his attitude we could not understand - my husband was not impressed and told him to calm down. Not a good start to his birthday celebrations I paid 156.40 for a superior room. View great, decor not so great - room 110. The room was large, the bathroom was not - in fact, when I closed the bathroom door, there was a disregarded pair of socks wedged behind it from the previous guest! The bathroom had no fan and the squeaky floorboards very off putting The draft/noise from the inch gap from the window was disturbing and the bed was too small Went out to eat at 8pm and the dining room was empty. Came back at 10.30pm and there was a pub singer crooning a message to you Rudi. I later heard some more of his repertoire whilst taking a bath - no toiletries supplied. A small bar of soap would have been appreciated Get the impression that the hotel only caters for coach trips If you are looking for a romantic trip with a personal touch forget it Go to the Old Custom House in Padstow, Camelot Hotel in Tintagel or Malmaison in Oxford - all wished us Happy Birthday, Old Custom House even left a a Wedding card in our room and gave us a bottle of wine as we honeymooned there in December Disappointed- would not go back due to lack of hospitality. The young chap behind the bar should be promoted to front of house as he was very pleasant Only manage to get away for high days and holidays due to family commitments and to be honest, I couldnt wait to get back home from The Royal. Waste of money Rooms: Tired
