This isn't my account (it's my partners i don't have one but felt i should review the place). Me and her were put onto Universal Credit after she had an operation on her back and she was not claiming disability benefits any more. Having been a "client" of the Job Centre in the past (and seeing the "horrors" of how some of the staff treated my sick partner (she was on WR ESA some years ago and her advisor was i'm sure just thought were a pair of liars and he alluded to it often enough) we were not looking forward to it..... We turned up for our joint appointment. Right away we tried to explain my partner has bad anxiety and could we stay together. This seemed to put two of the women staff members noses up as they sarcastically (to us anyway) Stated "her appointment is upstairs yours is here she will have to upstairs" (this sounds fine but it was the "tone" and looks that gave it away). In the end they allowed me to do my paperwork as i was early. "get your stuff out" one of them said rather short tempered... We did our appointment and were booked to see our Work Coaches. After this we were dreading it we both are on medication for anxiety and this sent it through the roof. Our appointments loomed and i was booked to see Jason and my partner Tilly. Jason was friendly he shook my hand and talked to me with respect like it should be. I explained my situation (very convoluted situation). He listened and offered me some advice. We agreed my Commitments (all fair i did not feel "pushed" to do things i felt unsure about). It was a good meeting. My partner finished her review with her Coach. She said Tilly made her feel relaxed and talked to her like a human being not a National Insurance number. My partner has stayed with Tilly while my Work Coach is sick so i have been "moved around". This let me meet some of the other Work Coaches (all good people i met who were happy to help me and treated me with respect). I was put though my CSCS Card and because i was struggling to afford I.D. to take the test they paid for it as a "Barrier to Work". I had a new CV constructed by the Careers people on the bottom floor. While there i noticed a familiar face tucked away in the corner... My partners old ESA Advisor. He looked over as if he recognized me (i smiled to myself). He looked like he had aged 15yrs and looked like he had just woke with a hangover. He needed a shave/wash. As sad as it is to say i found this made my day. I though about the times my partner left in tears as he insinuated she was "not as bad as you claim". The moral of this tail is that don't judge a book by it's cover in this place i have met some of the most hateful "creatures" but this time i have met people that have helped me change my life. The Work Coaches we have seen were good people doing the best the system will allow. People think all of them are cruel spiteful people. But some of them are fresh not jaded by the system yet. Thanks Jason/Tilly/Matthew/Ilona/ [the other i can't remember]. Stay the people you are and don't become "The System". Thanks for the help WE appreciate it. (Gary).
