My 12 year old son has broke his tooth in pain. Reception say no dentists at Houstons can see him, they say I need to phone 111, I ring them they tell me Houstons have duty of care and hes a child. Houstons say no,there no dentists! Unless I can pay for it he cannot be seen. Very sad times never would think this would happen to us in 2023

Had a dental check up and dental hygienist appointment booked for 27 February 2023. Checked in via the Practice Manager just before 09:00am and was told my dentist had called in sick i.e. Dr Bath. Told to go on to my initial dental hygienist appointment first and in the interim, they would see if they could rearrange and accommodate me for a different time of the day. Dental hygienist appointment done, I go back into the main reception area. The Practice Manager is not present and a separate lady tells me they cannot accommodate me today and my appointment 'no longer stands'. Off home I go. I now live in Devon and have been on the waiting list for a local dentist since June 2022 and still nothing. I travelled circa one hour and 30 mins for the appointment and took the day off of work also. Off I go home My next appointment is now in September 2023. What happens if the dentist calls in sick again? What baffles me, is if you ring up a practice and ask if they can fit you in a private appointment, they can do this very swiftly, so there is clearly capacity. If you go NHS, you cannot get an appointment for love nor money. There is clearly some cherry picking going on. Improvements required in my opinion. Waste of my time and money and annual leave. Should be an option to reverse invoice for wasting my time and annual leave.

Sadly, since the sale of the Houston Group this dental surgery has declined in it's operation and customer service. In the last 2 years I have seen numerous and longstanding really good reception staff leave and I understand they have had the same exodus with 17 dentists in the last 12 months alone. Noted, that looking on the website they still have those who left 14 months ago listed as current members of the team. Recently, I tried to book an emergency appointment due to a crown falling off and was told the earliest appointment was 8 weeks and that to book my check up will be 18 months apart after being cancelled by the dentist twice previously. The member of staff I spoke to who obviously no longer enjoyed her job was the one who advised of the amount of dentists who have left. I have just tried to ring to cancel my 18 month appointment in advance as I found a new and functioning practice, (they saw me as an NHS patient in a week for a check up) but have been unable to get through on the numerous times I have tried. It's such a shame as it was such a good dental practice of which I was with for 20 years.
