Wrought Iron Sussex

Matthew has just created for us the most beautiful gate we could have asked for. When we first discussed the design with him, we had only a vague idea of what we wanted. Simple, honest and beautiful. When we went to see the first "mock-up" the vague idea had somehow become "Our Gate". He had understood instinctively what we were looking for and had translated that into a beautiful work of art. Every tiny piece is exactly right. From the slight change of angle on some of the upright bars, the tactile finials, the gentle curve of the upper horizontal, the half moon angles on the joints, the beautiful fish that guards the padlock. And the most perfect workmanship and finish. Matthew is a fantastic artist, an incredibly skillful blacksmith and one of the most amazing people we have been lucky enough to meet. From an idea to a beautiful finished article, it's been a pleasure dealing with Mathew. He's been very collaborative on the design, happy to take suggestions & offer advice. He takes great trouble to get the details right before working the metal. His craft skills are evident as things take shape. He visited the site to measure up, then returned to effect a first fit, then installed the work after specialists had added the finish. My wife chose the colour. He's made an enduring feature for our garden, we'll enjoy it every time we catch sight of it. Many, many thanks Mathew.

I called Matthew with a question regarding our 6th Wedding Anniversary (iron) and to see if he could make something bespoke for my wife.
