Riverdale cottage

Just returned from six lovely days of peace and quiet at Riverdale campsite. Would definitely recommend. Owners very pleasant and helpful.

We are currently staying on this delightful gem of a site. Located very close to Battle. Owners very friendly and helpful. Site clean, very reasonably priced, quiet and well ordered. We are looking forward to sampling their home produced products. We will be returning.

We stayed here on the 9/7/2021 for 3 nights. Fantastic location close to Battle and Hastings. The owners were great and really helpful. Our first trip away with our camper. Paul the owner helped with our new hook up and showed us where everything was. Will certainly be heading back there in the near future.

Awful from the initial welcome which felt micro aggressive and unfriendly. On the field, you are right underneath an electricity pylon. I paid the full price of 20 pounds per night up to 4 as a family. I did say I had a tiny electric Renaut Twizy quadricycle which I would be using rather than my small motorhome for local travel. I toped the charge up overnight using the 3pin plug in the motorhome. According to the official Renault website, it costs no more than a pound and that's from empty.) After going out in the morning I returned only to find the owners saying, "we want a word with you" they wanted me to pay an extra 10 pounds per night for charging the quadricycle, after showing the official website stating 1 pound from an empty charge the husband agreed to 2.50 per night, the wife meanwhile was still shouting and arguing. The last resort came when I asked if my girlfriend who lives nearby to visit me for a couple of hours they insisted I pay a further 5.00 pounds. On stating I would pay them at the end, just to placate them, they refused entry to my campervan unless I paid in front for the charging and guest costs. I refused and said I was leaving the next day, I opened the gate and headed for my camper van. They had made me feel like an unwanted guest, the whole thing was stressful and upsetting. What a terrible start to my holiday. Once I had reached my van they both returned the husband threatened me with possible violence, he also said my girlfriend was a "pikey" (derogative word for gipsies) he also repeatedly called me a Cxxt and told me to "get off his land". Later the Police arrived, as they had been called regarding "illegal occupancy of land" they were embarrassed and apologised, and said this is not a police matter, we agreed that I would leave in the morning. I was reimbursed for the 4 nights remaining, minus the electric and guest charges. This is a true and accurate account of my experience staying on this site. I have been camping all my life, I'm 63 years old, never have I been confronted with such animosity and bigotry. Also, be aware the exit from this site is on an area of an accident hotspot, it feels like you are taking a massive risk each time you exit due to a nearby bend and the speed of traffic. This site should be banned from ever appearing as a "certified site".
