Great place, friendly staff. One of the biggest cemeteries in the Croydon area. Well maintained and looks clean and tidy, it also has a lot of memorials to a lot of famous people, and there is a chapel in the middle of it with a crematorium. They have a mortuary also next to it. At the back is a huge memorial dedicated to World War 2 personnel who gave their lives in the great war, with over 300 servicemen and women with headstones which is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. I was born nearby this place and lived here for 45 years of my life, to this day the cemetery has had an astounding reputation for Godliness and cleanness which is unparalleled, due to the hard work of the staff and the religious order who work very hard to maintain it as one of Croydons best cemetery. Ronnie Corbett had his cremation here along, with Tom Norman,` The Elephant Man` Joseph Merrick's manager and the controversial hanging of Derek Bentley in 1953 are buried here. These are just to name a few of the famous people buried at this huge cemetery. Appointments aren't necessary as you browse through the area in your own time. The original Victorian buildings, with chapel and angels, remain amongst the modern additions.
