I hired a carpet tile lifter, which when started using it, I discovered had a fault. This made the job extremely difficult to use as the machine was not fit for purpose. Called and initially no was told there was no way to fix the issue. I then found a machine with a different company as I had a tight deadline. Hire and buy later called me to offer a different machine that they just fixed but Id found a different machine for hire by then. Plus my confidence in the quality of their machines was quite low so I decided to go for the alternative company. On returning the machine they still charged me for it!! I had no real option as I had left a 100 deposit with them. The reason they gave is that I had then machine with me for 2 days. Thats true, but I had a job to do and under a tight timeline so could not instantly return the faulty machine. I had to collect an alternative and then dedicate my time to using it. All in all, as a customer hiring a faulty machine, I would not expect to have to pay at all. It was used for 10 minutes. The fault should have been discovered before I hired it. If you use this company check over the tool/machine carefully!!
