Went to the Cafe yesterday, and the experience was overall very poor. The 5 of us were shown to a table, but that was about it. We waited and waited and waited for someone to come and ask us what we wanted. We almost gave up and were about to walk out. Eventually we did get our order taken. It still took some time to come and one of the drinks was missing/wrong. The cake was actually nice, and tea not bad, but it was spoilt by the dreadful service. Yes it was mid afternoon on Bank Holiday but that shouldn't be an excuse. Just one person was behind the counter doing prep; the waitresses were out taking orders from customers. It seemed completely the wrong approach to try to do table service. I notice there are several other reviews complaining about aspects of the cafe and I'm not surprised. I think the owners ought perhaps to take a look at the processes and come up with a better approach. Either that or be prepared to change the process at very busy times.

We visited yesterday for coffee and lunch with a friend. We have been before but some years ago, and before the place was refurbished. The restaurant area has been well designed, with three separate eating areas, including 'The Pavilion', a conservatory style unit looking over the car park area. The menu has gone a bit upmarket since our previous visits, but we indulged our childhood memories with a 'giant fish finger sandwich', and very filling it was too, with sweet potato fries! The greetings card section and toilets are adjacent to the restaurant, and there is the usual range of garden centre paperbacks, garden furnishings etc. While we were there, a coach party of senior citizens arrived for a group afternoon tea, but they were no trouble to the rest of us!! We may well return, although it is 20 miles from home!
