A very mixed experience trying to renew my passport. As many people have found, getting an appointment is extremely difficult. I spent three months trying to get an appointment, trying different times of the day often multiple times per day. I got so desperate at one point that I even investigated applying for British citizenship. I eventually managed to get an appointment on a Friday afternoon at 14:00. The booking system is outdated and utterly frustrating. My experience at the Consulate was brilliant. The security staff were very friendly. I was let in early, and the entire process of renewing my passport took less than 40 minutes for me (including waiting time). The lady that helped me was friendly and spoke to me in English when she noticed me struggling with Portuguese. I requested that the passport be sent to my home, and the most surprising thing was that my appointment was on a Thursday morning and on the Friday afternoon I received a text message from DHL to say my passport would be delivered on the Monday (I was told it could take up to four weeks and I did not request the express delivery). So, once I managed to get an appointment, my experience was very good.
