Sam (the guvnor) and his instructors (Jae and Steve) are all bona fide tradesmen who have been out on the tools for a great deal of time themselves. They're very ably assisted by young Ty. They teach you thoroughly and professionally.
The first week you learn to fit plasterboard, both screwed to studwork and dot'n'dab. Then you learn to skim straight onto plasterboard on a./ a ceiling, b./ a wall and c./ a wall with a window so you're skimming angle beads you've applied. You then skim over existing plaster and over artex.
The second week you learn how to apply bonding & hardwall as a basecoat and then skim over it with finish plaster. You also apply beading to a low breeze block wall and use sand and cement to render it. Then you're back skimming over various plastered walls incorporating different angles between adjoining surfaces to practice 'wet' corners.
The third week you're freelancing on different suggested walls practicing getting the plaster mix right as well as your technique (getting a flat, smooth finish) and judgement of the waiting time between the first and second coats and between the second coat and the 'wet' trowel finish. You also start to pick up a bit of speed as you get used to the process. During this week whilst the instructors are letting you get on with things independantly they are also observing you and correcting you when and if neccessary. It's a bit deceptive as you think they're too busy with other things but if you are making a mistake you'll find they appear as if from nowhere to correct you in an encouarging and informative manner.
In a world of falling standards it's decidedly refreshing to encounter an organisation that teaches you in an incredibly conscientious and professional manner. They offer extreme value for money and the only regret I have is not having taken this course sooner.
