Stayed at Seatallan in late September 2021. Seatallan is the last house in a Row of 3 houses, each house is split into two,the downstairs is entered through the front door, the upstairs is accessed via stairs around the back. So these 3 houses have been converted into 6 flats or ' Cottages '. I've stayed in the first house, called Yewbarrow, about 3 years ago. It was a very pleasant experience and I did think that Seatallan would be the same. Wrong.... The fist thing that hits you as you open the door is the smell,it's a musty, mouldy smell. It's just there, constant and lingering. One of the lads did mention that there was Mold on some of the walls and around the windows,he also saw some Mold spray, under the kitchen sink. The mattresses were a joke. They were very thin, very uncomfortable, and had springs protruding out of them. The double bed was the worst, one side of the mattress was actually caved in,so it was effectively a single mattress. If you turned over in the middle of the night, you'd be rolling towards the window. They must have brought the Mattresses and the duvets as a set, because they too were desperately thin. Just 1 toilet roll provided, what's that about,we're not asking for a set of 12,but 3-4 would be nice,it's not as if there wasn't any room, the toilet roll holder had a capacity for 3.....with only 1 on there. The flat was in need of an update,a spruce and freshen up. The kitchen was dated and looked tired. Obviously, all these are our personal observations and I'm comparing Seatallan to Yewbarrow, which had much more of a homely feel to it. The major plus point of Seatallan is the location. Wast water is literally 500 metres away from you,Scafell pike, which was the whole purpose of the trip, was on your doorstep. There are 2 car parks to scafel which are near you. The first car park is Wasdale car park, then further Along the same road is Wasdale head. We parked our car at Wasdale head outside The Wasdale Head Inn. The car parking was free and the path to Scafell was right in front of you. This car park is about 5 Miles from Seatallan, but it does take about 15 minutes to get there because of the single track roads. There were lots of other people there as well,so no real issues about getting lost or starting on the right path, especially novices. I was disappointed with Seatallan, more so in the fact that I chose it,the buck stopped at me. It's got a lot of potential and can be made to be really homely and the fixes required aren't really that expensive.
