Best youth hostel and accommodation in the UK without a doubt. Great service they go the extra mile. Now some 11 months later is even better. New updates have been put in place in the self catering kitchen, upstairs the showers are brilliant, beds great just a shame they close it for winter. Years ago I used to do the assessments for the hostels in the lakes. I can see the difference over the years, this place is spot on and very special, Steve and his staff go the extra mile.

We didn't stay here but walked in the area and ended up in the cafe for a few hours when our car broke down. This is an incredible YHA. Firstly the setting and views are absolutely gorgeous. Secondly the building is spacious, beautiful and has some really interesting historical features (ask Mike to tell you more). Thirdly the cake is to die for. Finally and most importantly the members of staff we met were so kind and went well out of their way to help us - which would be above and beyond in any circumstances but given that this clearly happens all the time was even more touching. Wonderful people and a real hidden gem in terms of views and walks - why wouldn't you go?! Thanks YHA Wasdale Hall, for saving our day!
