Nixon Williams were my accountant between 2018-20. As part of the services in my contract they were supposed to give tax advice and submit self assessment and being my registered agent with HMRC they handled comms with them. However, this May, I received a fine from the HMRC for 18-19 and 19-20 tax years as my self assessments hadnt been submitted and as I tried to contact Nixon Williams to understand the issue, I had to go all the way up to the MD to get someone to reply to me after endless attempt to call them and email the multiple people that looked after my account. Finally, the tax department, which should have advised me at the time if something was missing, tried to charge me to do the tax returns for these years (which should have been submitted when I was still paying them as my accountant) and until my husband intervened they didnt budge and also flagged they werent liable for the fine (which I then had to appeal by myself and it is now all solved). Very disappointing to pay a firm for a expert service that you only partially receive. I do not recommend.

I would advise to never go with this company. It was ok until about a year or so ago. Junior accountants who do things wrong. Their portal was hacked and went down so you couldnt even see your accounts. Your own accountant doesnt even reply nor does anyone else. They moved account information from one platform to another and made unexplainable errors. Took out a directors loan without telling us in order to balance something! Not informing us of essential things. Corporation tax paid late because of them. Every single thing a failure. I mean, this firm has collapsed fully. It might as well not be in operation. Instead limiting the amount of clients they have in order to cope, they keep going and keep taking the money. Im currently trying to get the fees back that have been paid to them because there was no service provided.

Their services use to be alright. Now I feel like I have to chase up for things and that they only contact me to sell me optional services such as filling the self-assessment tax return (which use to be free a few years ago). They're going downhill and the online tool, vantage, has become terribly slow in the last 2 years or so.

I have been with nixon williams since 2011 Standards have been slipping over the last couple of years. Very slow responses to emails. Annual accounts and self assessments are now very slow in being completed. I have also had 2 incidents where i was told last minute about a tax payment. Shame as when i first joined the company was excellent.
