Refurbishment of our house begun at the beginning of lockdown - dont be fooled by the professional front to these unprofessional builders. We employed a chartered structural engineer, we are architects, we had a clear set of tender drawings and a specification and full set of structural engineering drawings. Toppers did not follow them. Build quality was low to bad. Errors were unforgivable. For example: We dug out our lower ground floor and underpinned to get extra head height. Early on Toppers flagged that they needed to vary the cost for the slab construction. (They had assumed it was of standard construction but on referring to engineers drawings realised it was atypical - for good reason!) We did not approve the cost as it was there at tender. Toppers proceeded to IGNORE our engineers drawings and pour a standard slab to their own spec in whilst we were off site. They didnt send photos. It was deliberately done behind our backs. We were not sent pictures of the steel that should have been in the slab. They did not communicate with the engineer, building control or us thereafter. They deserted the site. When asked to verify what was in the slab to avoid liability for their error they refused to declare ! We asked a site labourer and he explained exactly the process and pour and it was totally different to our specification. In the end they produced an engineers sketch to verify their design was ok - what chartered engineer would do this?????!!! Verify a slab they didnt see being made, not to their own design, on a building they have never worked on, without even coming to site! Very sketchy and dubious. We have since had to pour a whole new slab on top of theirs to make it structurally sound, weve lost the head height we dug out for initially - making the underpinning worthless. Theres loads more to add: - steels were installed on a fall greater than building regs allow. - new studs were set out wrong - health and safety was virtually non existent, so other trades refused to come to site Do not be duped. Would never employ again as wouldnt trust them. Despite what they come back with below !

look at their CCJ history, tells you all you need to know. Unscrupulous, unreliable. Look elsewhere.

Toppers built my extension on inadequate foundations using structural engineers and approved inspectors who did not carry out the relevant site inspections as a result of which the Final Certificate issued by the latter has been rejected by the Local Authority leaving me with a massive bill for underpinning. I would suggest you avoid this company at all costs.

Can not recommend at all. Always late on schedule quality is very low compare with price, problems with payments for subcontractors(he didn't pay them) I'm so disappointed about this company, I will never go for it again, cause more trouble than its worth ...Charlie seems to be nice person at the beginning but then he shows his real face.
