  • Rethinking Service

    I bought a car from JJ Autocentre at the end of November. Having driven it for a few months it has continued to be a good car, with no problems, and it was sold to me for a fair price. James, the owner, strikes me as someone who genuinely wants to take pride in his business, to sell people good quality cars, and to provide a good service. He was friendly, easy to get on with, and there was no hard sell. At the time of buying it, one of the rear electric windows wasn't working. I decided to buy it regardless, on the condition it would get fixed. James absolutely stuck to his promise to get it sorted out. He arranged for and paid for the work to be done by the garage he uses, with absolute minimum fuss. If you see a car you like at JJ Autocentre I would absolutely recommend using them.

    I am writing this to warn others, to check cars before or straight after buying. I purchased there a car in August. Week later I went to the garage for the after purchase check, mechanic found a problem with head gasket. I tried to return car and honestly, if James would do, what the law say in this scenario, this would be a 5 stars review. Instead James offered me 500 for repair. I refused this. I've never received my 3mths guarantee documents I asked for, which should definitely let me a get full refund for the engine repairs. I still wanted to return that car. I've been asked to drive car back (3h drive with faulty head gasket). Almost exactly month later, after contacting my advisor and sending official letter, I finally got offered the tow truck collection, and money back. I am sure this wouldn't happen if I would be too quiet to stand for myself. There was totally lack of contact, ignoring my calls/texts/emails. Got replies 2 days later after being just annoying and texting wherever I could. It's almost 4k I've spent on this car and had to go as far as sending official documents to get money back. Also, no idea, why do you have an email address if you read messages but never reply. Now, I never received V5C, gov website shows last document issued years ago (it's been exactly month and a day today since I bought and taxed the vehicle), it probably never been sent by the seller, as I found the issue really quickly, there is no sign of me being ever an owner of that car. So please, if you want to buy a silver Toyota Avensis GV08ZPN, that's being advertised on their website, make sure you check it with the mechanic for any signs of head gasket problems. I'm not saying it haven't been fixed before reposting, but I don't want anyone to be fooled and have it broken in couple of months. I know James won't be happy about this review, but I've given him chance every of three weeks that car was sitting on my carpark, to make things right, but he tried to cut costs and make me deliver faulty car and get back home by train. Who would pay for all that? Dear dealers, you have to check your cars before selling, not make your customers do that for you, blame them for finding issues and hope they are stupid. I recommend to buy there but only after fully checking with mechanic.
