Hand in Hand

Live locally and been coming here for years. Still a great pub, still very dog and children friendly, I've found the pies and other food usually excellent, ales are always really good, but with a couple of notable exceptions (Brad for one) the bar staff really need to learn or relearn the basics. Like making eye-contact or otherwise acknowledging your presence at the bar. Like knowing who's in line to be served next (or asking rather than just serving the nearest customer). Like saying "I'll be with you in a minute" when the bar's busy. Like giving the impression that your custom is actually welcome rather than an inconvenience. Recruiting in the hospitality trade is tough but if you've got staff it doesn't take much to train them in a smidgen of customer service. Too often now that's lacking in the Hand. Hopefully a temporary lull.

Extremely disappointing. We have always had decent food here. This was probably one of the most disappointing roasts we have had. The gravy tasted so incredibly bland. Soggy roast potatoes. Such a poor show.

I've been drinking in the Hand since 1975 and it's still one of my favourite pubs in London. It has expanded and changed over the years but still retains the same cosey friendly atmosphere.
