Pre-Meatloaf tribute gig at Southwell. Travelling, so thought a place just outside the town would be a good idea. Booked table for three at 18.00 and the pub was quiet (booking is advisable as the pub isnt huge and is popular). Friendly staff, real fire in one of the seated non-food areas. Fireplace where we sat with lovely smoky-smell evidence of a recent fire. Ordered fish and chips x2 and a steak. Fish - lovely flavour, batter light and crispy, not claggy underneath. Choice of mushy of garden peas. Chips - not chips, they were rustic fries (skin on) would have preferred chunky chips with this traditional chippy tea. Apparently the steak was perfect. Definitely recommend if youre out this way.
