When I first came to a Newcastle Martial Arts training session it was clear that what was on offer was the real thing. A well structured syllabus, with many layers of learning and experience to work through with an exceptionally well qualified instructor and a welcoming group of students. As an older student (49) I was not sure if I would 'keep up' with the others, I shouldn't have worried, I have been able to progress at a pace that suits me, and enjoy learning new skills every week. Have no doubt, this is an extremely powerful style of Martial Art, and it will suit women and men of all ages.

I've always had an interest in martial arts, through movies and TV shows mainly, but had never pursued classes or tuition. I knew very little about taijiquan other than from popular culture. My friend located the class and asked if I would like to try it with him. At the time I was struggling to commit to regular physical exercise. I'd tried gyms before but always struggled to go regularly. This seemed like a good opportunity for physical exercise with the added bonus of learning self defence. The people really make the class for me. Friendly and supportive environment.

I specifically looked for a taijiquan class as I wanted something with that could also provide some mental stimulation in order to maintain long term interest. I certainly have not been disappointed! The training has led to me being physically more relaxed yet stronger. I also feel mentally more relaxed, resilient and better able to cope with demanding situations. From an interest point of view, there are seemingly endless opportunities to draw from Master Waller's incredible depth of knowledge. A major strength of the class is that whilst students are always encouraged to work hard and progress, they are allowed to do so at their own rate as their circumstances allow.

I have been at Newcastle Tai Chi for over two years now and it seems that the more I learn the deeper and more exciting the art really becomes. Tai Chi Chuan is the unlikely combination of relaxing, meditative and energising to your body whilst at the same time learning to deal with real world attackers in a brutally efficient manner. It is a martial art in the true sense of the word meaning that you can have every confidence that it will work against someone who genuinely means you harm. Add to that the fact that Master Waller is an excellent teacher, he has a real ability to get his teachings across as well as obviously spends a lot of time and effort planning and improving the syllabus. If you ever need convincing of the efficacy of the art you need only see one demonstration of effortless power and you get a real sense of a martial tradition many years in the making.
